If you’ve been wondering what skills your recruiting team needs to beef up on in 2013, we’ve got your answer. In fact, with Obamacare right around the corner in 2014, you shouldn’t be too surprised at what we’re about to tell you.
Online careers are expected to sky rocket this year with 1 in 4 university students doing online work after graduation. Further, the number of full-time corporate employees who quit jobs to pursue a full-time career is expected to triple.
Simply, this means you need to be prepared to recruit a whole new way by focusing on the online skills and abilities necessary for virtual employees – not simply desk job workers. What are the skills you’ll need to look for?
Independence
Sleeping until noon just won’t cut it for an online employee. They’ll need to log-in to their work systems in a timely manner and not get distracted by an at-home environment.
Accurate decision-making
When you don’t have a boss, you need to make your own choices about how to handle issues. Those decisions need to be in line with the businesses values, objectives and goals.
Technical trouble-shooting
In a home office, if the internet goes down, you can’t call IT to help. Employees who have the ability to deal with their issues including software, programming and internet resets will have an easier time adjusting to online work life.
Task and time management
Above all, meeting deadlines when you work alone can be difficult for some people. If an employee is going to work online, they need to meet every deadline, every day to be successful at what they do.
Since predictions indicate companies will hire twice as many online workers this year, it follows that recruiters will need to be prepared to get the right folks into these positions – and it’s not going to be easy.
In some cases, hiring managers may not get to meet remote workers or be able to gauge anything other than their virtual communications. They’ll be looking to organizations that can assist with keeping employees true to their word.
As you keep an eye on this upcoming trend, make sure you consider how you’ll prepare to scout out these online workers and ensure their success in business. Since it’s your reputation on the line, it’s important to keep alert for the right skill set every time you interview a candidate. And to keep an eye on this number one growing trend.
