The world of recruitment has gone mobile. This is not surprising considering a large number of job seekers are turning to mobile apps that allow them to search for new assignments, publish their online portfolios, and connect with recruiters around the world through social networks.

What Job Seekers Think About Mobile Apps

Kelton Research reported in 2012 that 100 million Americans now own smartphones, and they are turning to mobile recruitment and job search apps in growing numbers during their downtimes. (As featured on Mashable) 86 percent of the polled job seekers responded that they would use their smartphone to find a job, with 65 percent saying they would use mobile apps to find work, 55 percent would accept job alerts, 47 percent would apply to jobs, and another 45 percent would use their mobile job apps to track the status of their applications.

There were a couple of main advantages of using mobile apps for this purpose, as the survey revealed.

-       Portability of job search activities and resources makes it easier to find work whenever and wherever it’s convenient.

-       Access to new job postings on demand makes immediacy the key to successful job searching.

Sadly, many job seekers are still disappointed that their favorite career websites are not fully optimized for mobile use and that they are often difficult to use in this manner. They are more apt to start shopping online instead of connecting with career opportunities if they cannot find a way to do this using mobile apps.

How Can Mobile Apps Cater to the Recruitment and Job Search Markets?

In order to find the best candidates, a large portion of recruitment needs to continue to shift to more mobile technology, such as Jobscience Mobile Interviewing, which enables recruiters to conduct candidate interviews on the go. This takes the entire mobile job search and recruitment process to an entirely new level of efficiency.

Here’s why mobile interviewing apps improve recruitment.

First, let’s look at the job search habits of the average job seeker. In a 2012 Candidate Behavior Study survey conducted by CareerBuilder, the actual habits and activities of real job seekers were tracked. This report revealed the following interesting facts.

  • 79 percent of Millenials are using online searching as a primary tool to source new job leads.
  • 74 percent of adults are actively seeking new assignments or are open to new jobs.
  • 81 percent of candidates review the social network profiles of companies they want to work for.

So, let’s assume that because of these average job search behaviors that candidates are able to tap into these resources by using their mobile devices? Consider that this would give all job seekers the ability to look for work, connect with recruiters, and expand their networks by using mobile apps that are geared towards recruiting and the search for a new job.

Mobile apps are leading the way towards improved recruitment efforts merely because they provide accessibility to job seekers and recruiters alike. They allow the right people to connect in real time, in the way that the world works now – on demand.
